Last month saw me at the beautiful Fennes Estate in Bocking, Essex to photograph the wedding of Amy & Lewis. Those of you that follow the blog may remember I shot their pre-wedding session in Hatfield Forest, which seemed along time ago, so it was great to see them both again on their big day.
Amy’s two sisters acted as her bridesmaids and made me feel very welcome during the bridal preparation whilst Lewis and his party were getting ready just down the corridor. For some of the detail shots I took the shoes and other bits and pieces outside and had to be careful to make sure I finished them in good time before Lewis arrived and caught a glimpse of something he shouldn’t. I’m always slightly worried that having the Bride and Groom getting ready in such close proximity might prove to be a bit of a complication but nothing has happened along those lines yet (fingers crossed!).
The weather was really kind to us, with lots of sunshine but not so hot that people felt uncomfortable in their finery. As the weather was so nice the ceremony itself took place outside in the gazebo. The spring flowers were out which added a lovely splash of colour to proceedings. I have photographed a few weddings at Fennes but this was the first one that had taken place outside so that was a new and welcome experience for me. After the ceremony there was a chap on a bicycle providing ice-creams to guests while we took the group shots. This was an inspired piece of planning as it provided people with something nice and cooling whilst adding to the fun and summery feel of the day. I made sure I limited myself to just the one ice-cream.
Amy & Lewis had clearly spent some time and thought on adding lots of little personal touches to make their day that much more special; from personalised jars of candy, pots of bubbles for guests to use at the end of the service, and a wishing well for messages to be left. It all added up to a magical experience.
One of the reasons I love photographing weddings at Fennes is that it has some great locations both inside and out as backdrops for the images – all within a very compact area. Amy & Lewis were great sports in trying helping me to take full advantage of this – the photos below being a small sample!
The day flew by and everyone had a great time celebrating with the happy couple – I know I certainly did. I really don’t think that the day could have been any more perfect.
Guys – thanks for having me along to your special day; it was an absolute blast. Many, many congratulations!!
